I remember how you smelt,
it was usually of English tea.
And how you ate your soup,
you always sipped it from the bowl.
I remember where you sat,
in that ol' rust colored chair of yours,
And how the way you laughed,
when the Thompsons filled the air.
I remember how your smile grew huge,
when grandchildren climbed upon your knees.
And how you spoke to me so softly,
when I was a little girl,
with bright red hair, and baby blue eyes.
You said I reminded you of that Gable's girl,
the one from P.E.I.
I remember our combined birthdays,
exactly eighty years apart.
How everyone gathered at the farm,
for burgers and cherry chip cake.
I remember the sleepovers at your house,
which is now my own,
and how Grandmother would rub my back.
I remember when you got sick,
and the day that you left us.
How I fell to my knees and wept.
I often wonder if you miss us,
even though I know you do.
And I wonder if you were watching over me,
that day I rolled my car on the hill?
I think you might've been there too.
Thank-you Grandad, for being there,
We all miss you tons,
we still wish you were here.
I'm just 17 now,
which means you're 97!
Grandmother's getting there too.
Boy how thing's have changed,
and how much you have missed.
Grandad, please take care of us,
and help us when we need guidance,
Grandad, just remember,
you will always be in our hearts.
